Saint Birinus was the apostle to the Saxons (Seaxe) and the Middle Angles (Middel-Engle). He was based in Dorchester on Thames between the Saxons to the South and West of the Thames, and the Angles to the North of the Thames. He was translated, i.e., reburied, in Winchester. The anniversary of his translation is marked on September the fourth.
